“Founded in
November 2011 by Korea Government, the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) supports
basic research within the entire range of natural sciences including
physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, earth science, and astronomy by
providing highly advanced, supportive, self-direct research environments”

IBS invites applications for the positions
of Associate Directors who are senior-level researchers with high research
potentials, running own research group in collaboration with the directors
within their Research Centers
1. Introduction of the research center
- The Center for Self-assembly
and Complexity (CSC) is one of the research centers selected in August, 2012
by “Institute for Basic Science (IBS)”, which is a new organization
established to boost basic science in Korea. The CSC is located in Pohang
University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Pohang, South Korea.
- Our research center primarily
focuses on self-assembly under complex environments in order to overcome
existing limitations in research on self-assembly. Such basic research will
address general questions in chemistry and biology and may even provide a
clue to the chemical origin of life and creation of artificial cells. Through
these studies, we want desired properties to be manifested in self-assembly
by controlling specific variables, or to create materials with such
properties. It will also provide an opportunity to develop new types of
materials such as nanomaterials and biomaterials with fundamentally novel
characteristics which cannot be achieved with classical systems.
