2022-2 Recruitment announcement for Research positions at the Center for Artificial Low Dimensional Electronic Systems in the Institute for Basic Science (IBS)

Center for Artificial Low Dimensional Electronic Systems (CALDES), Institute for Basic Science (IBS) in Pohang, Korea, directed by prof. Han Woong Yeom invites applications for postdoctoral research associate and researcher in the research field of STM and spectroscopy (STM/STS) of superconducting and magnetic materials and postdoctoral research associate in the research field of the synthesis and characterization of van der Waals single crystals. The CALDES is one of the collaborative research centers belonging to IBS, national research institute to lead the top notch basic science research of Korea.

A successful candidate for the synthesis and characterization of van der Waals single crystals is expected to contribute to innovative research on van der Waals materials with strong interactions through single crystal growth and the characterization of their physical properties. The characterization may include the low temperature STM study at CALDES. An ideal candidate must have strong background in materials synthesis, solid state physics and solid state chemistry. And a successful candidate for Low-temperature STM on superconducting and magnetic materials is expected to contribute to research projects on quasi-2d superconducting and magnetic materials using low temperature STMs of CALDES. An ideal candidate may have strong background in STM technique, 2D materials, and the solid state physics.

Research Position Job Description

- (Postdoctoral research associate) Conduct research while at the same time receiving postdoctoral training for a certain period of time to deepen their understanding of a field and develop a distinctive research capability. Available for individuals who are within the first five years after obtaining their Ph.D. or to be obtained within 3 months from the appointment start date. Appointed for a term of up to three years.

- (Researcher) Eligible to renew employment contract once after the initial term, and the total employment is up to five years

※ Note: In case of the Center’s closure during employment, the employment contract will be terminated accordingly.
