The IBS's Call for Applications in Designated Research Areas

The Institute for Basic Science (IBS) invites applications for directorship positions in designated research areas. Please refer to the description below and the “2012 Call for Applications for the Directorship of New IBS Research Centers” article, which was announced in January, 2012.

1. Purpose

○ As part of its effort to create a world-class research institute in the basic sciences, the IBS invites applications for directorships in designated research areas. Each Designated Research Area was selected to foster a field of basic science, because each will produce effects that will be important nationally and internationally in the future. Each Specialized Research Area was selected to establish a research hub for basic science on each campus.

2. Research areas

※ Please refer to Attachment 1 for details on the Designated Research Areas

3. Important Notice

○ Please send your application as a single PDF to: http://www.ibs.re.kr/en/apply.

         ※ Applications will remain open for two years from the announcement date; applications submitted before January 31, 2013 will be reviewed first.

○ The selection and evaluation procedure for directorships will be the same as those procedures announced in January 2012.

○ In principle, applicants for the theoretical physics and the mathematics fields shall select the research centers based at IBS headquarters.

          ※The IBS may select multiple directors for research centers in the fields of theoretical physics and mathematics.

○ Applications submitted by more than two applicants for a co-directorship are not permitted.

○ Applicants can change their specific area of research if the new choice is listed on the designated research area (See Attachment 1).
