Research Centers

IBS is a national research institute established to conduct world-class basic science research. IBS plans to establish 50 research centers. There are currently 31 research centers and 7 research institutes located at IBS HQ in Daejeon and relevant universities situated in Seoul, Suwon, Ulsan, Pohang, Busan and Gwangju. IBS research centers are divided into three categories: HQ, Campus and Extramural. Campus research centers are located in science & technology specialized universities, and extramural research centers are located in non-specialized universities.

IBS is undertaking research in every field of basic science, such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Life Sciences, Earth Science and Interdisciplinary Science. Each IBS research center is nurtured by renowned directors who have recruited outstanding international scientists to help shape the direction of their research and create new knowledge. IBS firmly believes that our research will drive national development and improve the quality of life, as well as contribute to expanding the frontiers of scientific knowledge.
