Director Yousoo Kim

Director Yousoo Kim is a world-renowned researcher in the field of surface and interfacial chemistry. He has pioneered research to elucidate and control energy conversion processes at the nanoscale, such as the development of single-molecule spectroscopy based on scanning probe microscopy.

Introduction
No-Image

The Center for Quantum Conversion Research aims to develop innovative methodologies for quantitatively measuring and controlling the interactions between quantum states, to understand the fundamental principles underlying energy and matter conversion, and to create innovative functions and properties manifested by the phenomenon of quantum conversion of matter.

- Studying the dynamics of quantum states: creating single photons, developing highly sensitive quantum sensors, and converting spin-to-photon quantum information
- Energy conversion in nanomaterials: Understanding the principle of creating quantum functions through mutual energy conversion of light, heat, electricity, etc.
- Research on chemical conversion at molecular interfaces: microscopic understanding of catalytic reactions and catalyst design strategies based on single-molecule spectroscopy techniques

Main research activities

The Center for Quantum Conversion Research will be based at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology and will launch on September 1, 2024. The center aims to develop innovative methodologies for quantitatively measuring and controlling the interactions between quantum states to understand the fundamental principles underlying energy and matter conversion, and to create innovative functions and properties manifested by the phenomenon of quantum conversion of matter.

The Center also has the vision to establish an international research network while providing solutions to the challenges of achieving a sustainable society on a global scale from a basic science perspective, with close links to universities and contributing to local economic and industrial innovation.
