The Institute for Basic Science (IBS) is now accepting applications from Korean students to participate in the 2017 Asian Science Camp (ASC), which will be held at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, in Malaysia from August 20 to August 26. The closing date for applications is March 31.

IBS will select 10 students via an application review, essay test, and interview. First or second year high school or university students who have an interest in and talent for science are eligible to apply. Applicants should be comfortable speaking in English. (Previous participants of an ASC are not eligible.) High school students should submit a recommendation letter from their mathematics or science teachers and university students need to submit a recommendation letter from the dean of their departments. Ten bright young scientific minds will represent Korea at the 11th prestigious youth science gathering. They will join nearly 300 other brilliant young minds from 30 Asian countries. The ASC will feature talks and workshops led by distinguished scientists including Nobel Prize Winners; Richard Roberts (1993 Nobel Prize winner in medicine & physiology); David Jonathan (2004 Nobel Prize winner in physics); Yuan-Tseh Lee (1986 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry); Ada Yonath (2009 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry); and Suzanne Cory, the 2002 recipient of the Royal Medal.

In addition to these, the participants will have group discussions and attend group lecture sessions and a poster contest to fuel their scientific inquisitiveness.
