IBS Director CHEON Jinwoo Appointed Associate Editor of JACS- Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS), the publication with the most Nobel Prize-winning papers in chemistry - - First Korean scientist to serve as an editor for two flagship journals of the American Chemical Society - CHEON Jinwoo, Director of the IBS Center for Nanomedicine and Distinguished Underwood Professor at Yonsei University, has been appointed as an Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS), the most prestigious journal in chemistry. His term will begin in January 2025. With a 145-year history, JACS is regarded as the premier journal in chemistry, publishing groundbreaking research across all fields of chemistry, including pure chemistry, applied chemistry, chemical engineering, and nanotechnology. It is also known for being the journal where the highest number of Nobel Prize-winning papers in chemistry have been published. As an Associate Editor, Director Cheon will oversee submissions in the fields of nanochemistry and nanomedicine. He has also served for the past 15 years as a Senior Editor of another globally renowned journal, Accounts of Chemical Research. This dual role makes Cheon the first Korean scientist to hold editorial positions in two flagship journals of the American Chemical Society. Director Cheon is a leading authority in the field of nanomedicine, which integrates nanoscience with medical applications. Notable achievements include the development of magnetogenetics, a technology that uses magnetic fields to remotely control neural activity in the brain, and the first demonstration of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast effects at the nanoscale, enabling ultra-precise biomedical diagnostics. For his groundbreaking contributions, he has received numerous accolades, including the Inchon Prize, the Ho-Am Prize, the Cheong-Am Prize, the Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Illinois, and the Humboldt Research Award.
