Director Rodney RUOFF

Professor Ruoff is the director of the Center for Multidimensional Carbon Materials, established in November 2013. Director Ruoff received his B.S. from the University of Texas in 1981 after which he enrolled in the University of Illinois where, in 1988, he gained his Ph.D. After a brief spell in the Max Planck Institute in Germany, director Ruoff returned to America where he held a number of positions before being announced as a director at IBS in late-2013.

Designing, synthesizing and studying new forms of carbon and related materials

  • - Conducting research of design, synthesis and properties of carbon materials or carbon-based hybrid materials
  • - Conducting interdisciplinary research across chemistry, physics, materials science and other related areas
Main research activities

Welcome to IBS Center for Multidimensional Carbon Materials (CMCM)!

IBS Center for Multidimensional Carbon Materials (CMCM) supports a talented international team of highly collaborative researchers that design, synthesize and study new forms of carbon and related materials, many of which are expected to have exceptional physical and electronic properties. The center is located in a new building at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), nestled in a beautiful area near the port cities of Ulsan and Busan. Ulsan is famous for its shipbuilding, automobile manufacturing, and petrochemical and chemical industries, and thus an ideal location to interface science with industry. Members and visitors of the CMCM will enjoy an intellectually stimulating environment that fosters dynamic exchange within the center and abroad through its extensive, international network of research institutions and programs.
