2024-1 Recruitment Announcement for Senior Researcher
Positions at the CTPU-CGA
(Cosmology, Gravity, and Astroparticle physics)

The Center for Theoretical Physics of the Universe, Cosmology, Gravity, and Astroparticle Physics Group (CTPU-CGA) at Institute for Basic Science (http://www.ibs.re.kr/ctpu-cga), South Korea, invites applications for senior researcher positions in Theoretical Cosmology, Gravity and Astro(particle) physics, which can start any time before December 16th, 2025 as long as all requirements are met at the point of starting time.* The position can begin, for example, from March 1st, 2025 or from October 1st, 2025 etc. The initial appointment will be for 2 years, and can be extended for an additional year subject to the performance review and funding situation**. Any field and/or topic is welcome as long as it is related to cosmology, gravity, and (astro)particle physics. For example, observational cosmology, dark matter, neutrino physics, quantum information, and so on are also welcome in addition to standard theoretical cosmology, gravity, and particle physics.

We recently initiated a new center called CTPU-CGA in CTPU led by the director, Masahide Yamaguchi, from March 2023. We will jointly organize the CTPU with another center CTPU-PTC led by the director, Kiwoon Choi, but the budget, organization, and recruitment are completely independent. The official language at the center is English. Research interests of our group cover broad areas of theoretical cosmology, gravity, astroparticle physics, and related areas.

  • * Up to 3 months deferral is negotiable, but doctoral degree must be obtained before December 16th, 2025, even in that case.
  • ** Though the official title is “Senior” Researcher, it’s just an official one. This recruitment is effectively for postdoctoral researchers including fresh ones.
  • ** The term can be extended once, and the additional term is 1 year. A researcher with an exceptionally good performance might get a longer additional term. (The additional term cannot exceed 3 years)

Step 2
(Interview Screening)
December 26 ~ December 30, 2024 Expertise in their field, attitude and communication skills, presentation skills, excellence of their research, development potential and prospect, etc. Final candidates will be selected in order of the highest scores with the minimum average score of 80.
※ The procedure allows for a successful candidate and up to two additional waiting list candidates per opening in accordance with the scores
There can be additional required documents according to the situation at the center

※ The schedule may change according to the situation at IBS

- A preliminary successful candidate may be determined within the range of two times the number of persons to be hired, and the effect of the preliminary successful candidate shall be limited to three months from the earliest of the scheduled appointment date or the final successful candidate's appointment date.

- During the validity period of the preliminary successful candidate, ① if the reason for the renunciation of employment or disqualification of the final successful candidate occurs, and ② if recruitment is necessary due to the withdrawal of the appointed employee, the appointment may be made according to the preliminary acceptance order.
