2025-1 Recruitment Announcement for Senior Research Fellow Positions* at the CTPU-CGA(Cosmology, Gravity, and Astroparticle physics)

The Center for Theoretical Physics of the Universe, Cosmology, Gravity, and Astroparticle Physics Group (CTPU-CGA) at Institute for Basic Science (http://www.ibs.re.kr), South Korea, invites applications for senior researcher fellow positions in Theoretical Cosmology, Gravity and Astro(particle) physics, which can start anytime in October 2025 – March 2026 (later time is negotiable). The initial appointment will be for 2 years, and can be renewed every two years until the Center closes, subject to the performance review and funding situation*

We recently initiated a new center called CTPU-CGA in CTPU led by the director, Masahide Yamaguchi, from March 2023. We will jointly organize the CTPU with another center CTPU-PTC led by the director, Kiwoon Choi, but the budget, organization, and recruitment are completely independent. The official language at the center is English. Research interests of our group cover broad areas of theoretical cosmology, gravity, astroparticle physics, and related areas.

*Please notice that this recruitment is different from another recruitment for Senior Research Position, which is the recruitment of a standard postdoctoral fellow (2+1 years’ contract). On the other hand, this recruitment could have a longer contract like a non-tenured faculty.

  • 〇 Research Position Job Description
    • - (Senior research fellow) Research-oriented personnel with a Ph.D., If the individual passes a separately designated evaluation before the expiration of the initial contract (2 years), reappointment is possible in 2-year increments until the Center closes. After the final interview, appointment decisions will be by the IBS HR committee.
  • ※ Note: In case of the Center’s closure during employment, the employment contract will be terminated accordingly.

Step 2
(Interview Screening)
May 20~ June 4, 2025 Expertise in their field, attitude and communication skills, presentation skills, excellence of their research, development potential and prospect, etc. Final candidates will be selected in order of the highest scores with the minimum average score of 80.
※ The procedure allows for a successful candidate and up to two additional waiting list candidates per opening in accordance with the scores
There can be additional required documents according to the situation at the center

□ Selection and Appointment Criteria for Reserve Candidates

  • 〇 Among those who scored an average of 80 or above in the final evaluation but were not selected for appointment, twice the number of available positions will be selected as reserve candidates.
  • 〇 The validity period for reserve candidates is three months from the earlier of either the scheduled appointment date or the actual appointment date of the selected candidate. Appointment from the reserve list will be made in the order of ranking under the following circumstances:
    • ① If a selected candidate declines the appointment or is found ineligible.
    • ② If the appointed employee resigns within the reserve candidate validity period, and a replacement is required.
