On New Year's day, a 2019 kick-off ceremony was held at the IBS HQ. President KIM Doochul began his new year's message with the four Chinese root idiom imjungdowon. He stressed that IBS is in a situation like an imjungdowon, carrying a hefty load but having a long way to go in order to realize its vision as a pioneer research institution. He stated that such responsibilities and missions require IBS members to maintain the highest level of sense of duty, responsibility and ethical standards.

"2018 was a landmark year as IBS laid the foundations for gathering its momentum for growth being relocated at its new home. It was also meaningful to introduce a new HQ Center model to strengthen our support for young scientists," President Kim said. He added, "It is our great pride that IBS researchers continue to publish notable research results and thus IBS is being recognized by renowned journals." He thanked IBS members for being committed to their duties.

President Kim expected a bumpy road might be ahead for IBS. He highlighted IBS members should be united with the deep-seated trust toward both science and scientists. He emphasized that shared value allow IBS to become a global research institute.
