Domestic and International Experts in Accelerator Gather at IBS- The 25th International Conference on Accelerators and Beam Utilization (ICABU2023) Commences on the November 8th - The Institute for Basic Science (IBS), in collaboration with the Institute for Rare Isotope Science, the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory, the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, and the Korea Association for Nuclear Fusion and Accelerator Technology Development is jointly organizing the 'International Conference on Accelerators and Beam Utilization (ICABU)' from November 8th at the IBS Science Culture Center in Daejeon. This event will host approximately 220 experts in accelerator technology and related professionals from the United States, Germany, Japan, China, Brazil, and other countries. Notable speakers include Professor Ting XU of the Superconducting Radio-Frequency (SRF) and Superconducting Magnet Team at Michigan State University's Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB). The conference will cover the technological developments and operational status of advanced accelerators worldwide, such as the FRIB and Fermilab's Proton Improvement Plan (PIP)-II in the United States, FRM-II at the Technical University of Munich in Germany, LIPAc (Linear IFMIF Prototype Accelerator) at the National Institutes for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology (QST) in Japan, and the 4th generation synchrotron light source at the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS). Major accelerator research institutions in Korea, such as IBS Institute for Rare Isotope Science, the Proton Science Research Division of the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, and the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory, and others will present their research, development, and operational status and achievements. This year's ICABU introduces a four-group working system for the first time, consisting of △Group 1: Accelerator Systems △Group 2: Beam Physics & Instrumentation △Group 3: Light Source Utilization △Group 4: Particle Beam Utilization. The session structure allows participants to focus on their specific areas of interest. Managing Director HONG Seung-woo of the Institute for Rare Isotope Science stated, "Scientific progress is intertwined with the development of research equipment. As accelerator technology advances, new scientific discoveries become possible. Continuous efforts are essential for the development of accelerator technology. By hosting the ICABU, we aim to broaden the exchange with accelerator experts worldwide and promote the overall development of accelerator-related science." Last year, the IBS Institute for Rare Isotope Science was at last designated as an IBS research institute. By hosting this year's ICABU at the IBS Science Culture Center, the institute aims to develop synergies with various IBS research clusters in the field of physics, including the Particle and Nuclear Physics Institute. ICABU began as the International Proton Accelerator Workshop hosted by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute in 1997. Since 2009, it has expanded into a conference format, and major accelerator research institutions in Korea have taken turns hosting and co-hosting the event. The 26th ICABU next year will be hosted by the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory. * IFMIF: 국제핵융합재료조사장치(International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility). 유럽(유럽원자력공동체 EURATOM)과 일본이 공동 추진 중이다.
