A promising banker Andy Dufresne is sentenced to life at Shawshank State Penitentiary for the murder of his wife and her lover. Andy, while feeling out of place incarcerated, befriends an inmate called Red whose expertise in smuggling in goods secured him some status. In the turn of events, the former banker helps prison guards with tax issues and even launders the warden’s illicit money. In return for the service, he is assigned to the prison library. Andy creates a positive influence on fellow inmates while working at the library, but when he is rejected by the warden after finding a lead that could prove his innocence, Andy decides to escape. He crawls out of Shawshank through a tunnel he has dug for many years. After some time has passed, Red is paroled. He remembers a promise to Andy and finds a cache which led him to a city where he reunites with Andy. At last Red admits he finally feels hope.
