The Institute for Basic Science (IBS) is a national research institute established under Article 14 of the Special Act on Establishment and Support for International Science and Business Belt, with the mission of securing creative knowledge and fundamental technologies through world-class basic science research.

The Institute for Rare Isotope Science (IRIS) at IBS is seeking creative and dynamic individuals to contribute to the successful construction and operation of Korea's core basic science research facility, the heavy ion accelerator.

  • ▪ Individuals who are expected to obtain their doctoral degree within three months of the appointment start date (by September 1, 2025) or who have obtained their doctoral degree within the past five years. Applicants must be capable of conducting research in the relevant field and must not hold other employment. (Note: ABD applicants are not eligible.)
    ※ Those expecting to graduate in August 2025 are eligible to apply.
  • ▪ Must have no disqualifying factors under Article 33 (Grounds for Disqualification) of State Public Officials Act or Article 8 of the IRIS Personnel Regulations, and must be eligible for overseas travel.
  • ▪ Must not fall under Article 82 (Restrictions on Employment of Persons Dismissed for Corruption) of Act on the Prevention of Corruption and the Establishment and Management of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
  • ▪ Male applicants subject to mandatory military service must have either completed their service*, been exempted, or be eligible for alternative service**.
    * Those currently serving must be able to complete their service by the appointment date.
    ** Must meet the qualifications for Technical Research Personnel as defined under the Military Service Act and its Enforcement Decree. (The end of the alternative service period must fall within the employment period.)
  • ▪ Must not be restricted from participating in national R&D programs.

D. Important Notes Regarding Document Submission

4. Preferential Treatment

A. Preferential Treatment

  • ① Persons eligible for employment assistance (veterans’ compensation) in accordance with applicable laws: Additional 5–10% of the full score at each evaluation stage
    • ※ Preference points are granted only to persons eligible for employment assistance (veterans’ compensation) under relevant laws, and the number of successful applicants through preferential treatment must not exceed 30% of the total number of successful candidates per selection stage
    • ※ This 30% cap applies to each selection stage if there are multiple stages such as written, practical, or interview tests.
    • ※ However, the 30% cap does not apply if the number of applicants is equal to or fewer than the number of available positions, or in restricted competitions where only persons eligible for employment assistance (veterans’ compensation) are eligible to apply.
    • ※ If the number of positions is three or fewer, candidates are selected based on raw scores, and preference points affect only ranking, not qualification. Preference points are not applied if the applicant's evaluation score is less than 40% of the maximum score for the stage.

B. Application of Preferential Treatment

  • ▪ Preferential treatment is applied only when the applicant checks the relevant option in the application form and submits valid proof.
  • ▪ If the applicant qualifies for both employment support (veterans’ compensation) and disability, they must check both categories and submit proof for each in order for both preferences to be applied.

5. Tie-breaking Criteria

  • ▪ In the event of a tie, candidates will be ranked and selected in the following order: ➀ Persons eligible for employment support (veterans’ compensation), ➁ Persons with disabilities, ➂ Women in science and technology, ④ Candidates with the highest combined score across all evaluation criteria, and ⑤ Candidates with the highest score in the immediately preceding stage. If a tie occurs in the initial stage, all tied candidates will be allowed to advance to the next stage.

7. Additional Information

  • A. This recruitment follows the “Public Institution Blind Hiring Guidelines” and the “Hiring Standards for R&D Institutions under the Ministry of Science and ICT.”
    • ※ In accordance with these standards, relevant details such as academic background (institution, major, degree, GPA, advisor) and research experience (institution, title, duties) will be collected to verify qualifications and suitability.
  • B. If the applicant or someone closely related to the applicant engages in any form of unfair solicitation, coercion, or offers financial incentives during the recruitment process, the offer will be revoked and the applicant will be barred from applying for five years.
  • C. If it is confirmed that the applicant was dismissed due to hiring misconduct from IBS or another public institution within the past five years, the offer or appointment will be revoked.
  • D. Any disadvantages resulting from failure to read the announcement, errors or omissions in the application form, or inconsistencies between the application and supporting documents are the applicant’s responsibility.
