2025-1 Recruitment Announcement for Senior Researcher Positions at the CTPU-PTC (Particle Theory and Cosmology)
The Particle Theory and Cosmology Group at the Center for Theoretical Physics of the Universe (CTPU-PTC), Institute for Basic Science (IBS) in South Korea, invites applications for a senior researcher position. The successful candidate will join an AI+HEP working group led by Sung Hak Lim, conducting research in the interdisciplinary field of artificial intelligence and high energy physics. We have a strong interest in combining physics knowledge with advanced machine learning techniques to accelerate research in beyond the standard model and dark matter physics.
This year, we are particularly interested in candidates with experience in one of the following fields, but are not limited to
- * Galactic Archaeology / Milky Way / Dwarf Galaxies / Stellar Streams / N-body Simulations
- * Collider Physics / Jet Physics / Monte Carlo Simulations
- * Other machine learning applications to high energy physics and astrophysics
Qualifications
- * Ph.D. in Physics or related fields. (Must be obtained by the appointment start date)
- * Strong interest in the interdisciplinary field of artificial intelligence and high energy physics.
- * Research experience with machine learning techniques
- * Good English communication skills.
Position Details
- * Start date: any time before December 16th, 2025.
- * Initial appointments will be for 2 years, with the possibility of a 1-year extension, subject to performance review and funding availability.
- * The official language at the center is English.
- * The selected candidate is also encouraged to collaborate with other CTPU-PTC members (faculties: Kiwoon Choi, Sanghyeon Chang, Jai-chan Hwang, Sang Hui Im, Tae Hyun Jung, and Seokhoon Yun; Young Scientist Fellow: Miok Park; and other researchers) as well as neighboring IBS centers.

IBS is a national lab in South Korea that focuses on fundamental sciences research. IBS consists of 31 research centers, and CTPU-PTC is a theoretical physics research center that carries out research on particle physics and cosmology, which aims to understand nature at the most fundamental level and answer the big questions about the origin of the universe.
Our center is located at the main headquarters of IBS in Daejeon, which is a metropolitan city focusing on science and research. Daejeon is well connected to other major cities in South Korea, including Seoul, which is an hour away by the high-speed train KTX.
